About

Chantel de Latour’s current work investigates memory and physical spaces through the use of light and colour. During her childhood, she lived in the south of France, where she developed a connection to the landscape and the beaches along the coast of the Mediterranean – the wet seam between land and sea.

Chantel’s paintings focus on the fluid nature of recurring memories that form an attachment to place. The concepts of distance and scale are key elements in her choice of subjects, from depictions of the rugged coast, to back-garden views of swimming pools. As a group, her works continue an open-ended exploration into the visual atmosphere of early memories.

Chantel completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts (2011) and a Graduate Certificate in Art History at the University of Melbourne (2018).

She is the recipient of the Gary Fell and Shelmerdine Art Awards and has been exhibiting since 2009.

Chantel lives and works in Melbourne.
